Adoption of Class at Port Allen Elementary School

Image---Speaking-to-Me-BlogDuring the 2016-17 school year He Speaks Today’s Mission Arm, Sowing Gifts of the Heart, adopted the Head Start class at Port Allen Elementary School in Port Allen, LA.  Through the Class Adoption Program, Sowing Gifts of the Heart adopts a graduating class in a low-income area.  It works closely with the school administration, teachers, staff, and parents or guardians to provide educational resources, mentoring, and other assistance from the time the children are in early childhood programs until they reach 12th grade –and beyond.

This summer the Class Adoption Program will present a technology booth camp for the students.  The boot camp will culminate with a Food, Fun, and Family activity.

Adoption of the Pre-K Class at Port Allen Elementary School

Through out missions arm, Sowing Gifts of the Heart, we have adopted the pre-kindergarten class at Port Allen Elementary School in Port Allen, LA.  Through the Class Adoption Program, Sowing Gifts of the Heart adopts a graduating classes and works closely with the school administration, teachers, staff, and parents to provide educational resources and assistance from the time the children are in early childhood school programs until they reach 12th grade –and beyond.

We began working with the students this summer through a program themed The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  The goal is to empower children while providing a platform for parent-child interaction through technology-enhanced experiences.  Among other things, we have intensely studied the life cycle of the butterfly, and its relation to real life.  (It is truly amazing what you can learn Scripturally from a butterfly.)

We have had two student-only sessions at the school, one on June 17th and the other on June 24th.  We have scheduled a culmination event in conjunction with the school and the school board on July 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the school.  Through this extravaganza, all (parents, students, relatives, friends, …) will get a personal look into the life of Eric Carle’s caterpillar by taking a journey through its transformation by means of various interactive educational booths that chronicle the caterpillar’s life cycle, an assortment of activities that bring the story to life, and informative presentations.
